Tyron Smith leaves practice; Will have MRI Thursday.

Smith did not return to training but walked past reporters in the locker room without a limp and without a knee pad or sleeve.

Smith’s injury has been well documented, as he’s missed at least three games every season since 2015. Most of his injuries were back/shoulder related, but now the Cowboys are hoping for the best with the Smith’s MRI.

Behind him, the Cowboys have inexperienced options in players such as Tyler Smith, who played there at Tulsa but has played far left this offseason. Others in the mix would be Josh Ball and Matt Waletzko.

Here are some more highlights from Wednesday’s practice at The Star’s Ford Center.

· Connor McGovern took snaps at center during practice, which Mike McCarthy said could be on the line. As of now, McGovern said he should start there Friday against the Seahawks.

· Head coach Mike McCarthy said if all goes well, Matt Waletzko could potentially play Friday night in the preseason game against the Seahawks as he recovers from injury. The tackle returned to practice on Tuesday and again on Wednesday night as he continues to push for a roster spot to increase offensive line depth alongside him.

· Brett Maher was 9 for 11, including a 55-yard attempt and four over 40 yards. Maher’s only misses came from 45 yards and another from the 58-yard goal post.

· Tyler Smith has been out for the second straight practice as he recovers from a minor ankle injury but has been working with the rehab group as Mike McCarthy said before practice.

· KaVontae Turpin was able to get some reps with the first team at wide receiver alongside Dak Prescott. Mike McCarthy said the plan was for Turpin to continue seeing more time with the receiving group.
