Mara Beth (Carr) Gardner, of Mashpee, died suddenly at her home on August 14, 2022 at just 50 years old. She was the beloved wife of Richard H. Gardner with whom she shared 12 wonderful years of marriage.
Mara was born on January 20, 1972 to Robert Carr and Barbara (Sylvia) Carr in New Bedford, MA. Mara was an identical twin and had a best friend in her sister Martha from the day they were born. The family lived in New Bedford and later moved to East Sandwich where Mara attended and graduated from Sandwich High School, Class of 1990. After graduating from high school, she completed the graduate program at the Stoneleigh-Burnham school, and later the X-ray technician program at Massasoit Community College. Mara was so proud to be a Certified X-Ray Technician and worked at RHCI Rehabilitation Hospital, Cape Cod Orthopedics and most recently Falmouth Hospital. Her career allowed her to do what came so naturally to her, helping people, something that was really important to Mara, both at work and in her personal life. She has always been a strong advocate for those in need.
Mara was an active young woman and growing up enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, ice skating and was a high school hockey cheerleader. Later, her love of sports continued and she also learned to love traveling. Mara was skilled in the kitchen and was known to be both a fantastic cook and an accomplished baker. She loved the beach and especially weekends with her friends and family at Sandy Neck Beach. She was a social butterfly and became known in her group of friends as the ultimate party planner! Mara was very involved in her children’s lives and being present with them was her highest priority. For the first few years, she volunteered as a religious education teacher at Christ the King Parish here in Mashpee. More recently, she was known as the team mom of Mashpee’s baseball and football teams, always there to cheer on not just her kids, but the whole team. Mara will be most remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, caring daughter, caring friend, and irreplaceable member of the community. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Mara is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Gardner, of Mashpee, MA; his son Thomas Hogan, of Mashpee, MA; his daughter Taylor Hogan, of Mashpee, MA; his daughters-in-law Megan Gardner, of Owls Head, NY, and Amanda Gardner, of Destin, FL; his father Robert Carr and his wife Kristine Carr, of Merritt Island, FL; her mother Barbara Carr and her husband David Cranshaw, of East Sandwich, MA; her sisters Amy Carr, of Merritt Island, FL, and her identical twin Martha Carr, of North Palm Beach, FL; his nephews Brandon Auglis, of Atsugi, Japan, and Matthew Callahan, of Fort Pierce, FL; his nieces, Alexa Carr, of North Palm Beach, FL, and Meghan Callahan, of Jensen, FL; her beloved dog and true love, Posi; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
